Non gaming related, I am looking for Topre capacitive keys and PBT keycaps in an 87-key or smaller keyboard but for the life of me I can't find any. I miss more devices using red or green LEDs as they usually had lower levels of light output that didn't light up a dark room like a lamp
I'm surprised they were red and not blindingly bright blue or white LEDs. Anyway, I told my daughter about it and she rolled her eyes and said "Geez, dad, are you trying to bring back the 80s or something?" *sigh* Granted, I've not built a system since the 90s, but I thought it would be fun to have a system with glass doors and interior lighting. When I put together a Ryzen 5 system last October, I thought it was pretty cool that the motherboard had red LED lights on it. Because I just don't get it, and I harbor a secret suspicion that game device makers are doing it just because someone in marketing thinks it'll sell the things, and no one else REALLY cares that much about them. So, while I know this post will (or at this point already did) offend some folks, I'd prefer to be enlightened as to why you think it's a major consideration at all for you. I'm thinking I'd rather walk away under my own power than lay dead on the virtual ground while "looking good" at home. And I'll gladly go 1X1 in-game with anyone who prioritizes lights over gaming-relevant features in their hardware. I get it that some folks are fascinated by the shinies, but seriously, the trend in gaming anything is enough lights to make the Ghostbusters ask "Jesus, dude, distracting much?" When the ISS is wondering what the cause of that new atmospheric phenomenon they observed from orbit, it's "excessive".Īfter all, when I'm gaming, I'm not looking at the lights. So those 16.1 million color, RGB, wave-enabled, pulsing to the beat devices do nothing for me and it's actually painful to slog through that irrelevant to one's ability to react quickly and reliably to a gaming situation garbage to get to the parts that tell you the most important information about the device's abilities - how well it reacts, how likely it is to work for you and how reliable it is.
On that journey I took, I saw a lot of garbage that had lots of lights, but nothing that would really improve anyone's ability to win a video game. Those speaker lights, and twinkling fans and wave-pulse lighting and other such things don't do squat to improve one's game play. But I really, honest and truly, do not get why lighting modes, styles, abilities and such are so prominently featured, when they impact game play not at all. Obviously the gaming industry caters to that and my grumpy old man rant isn't going to impact that. Okay, I get it that some folks think they're cool and love that kind of glitz. What did I see pushed in the top 5 features in most gaming accessories? In that journey, I was looking for response times, durability, form factors, programmable keys, and other such functional things. I've recently gone through a painful odyssey/life lesson when it comes to gaming hardware. I'm confused by the emphasis on "lights".
